How to Draw a Dumbbell

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a dumbbell in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the bar.

Print

  1. Step 1: The bar

In the middle, draw a long thin bar lying flat, like a flat hot dog with soft corners.

Tip Long and thin, right across the middle.

  2. Step 2: Two big plates

At each end of the bar, draw a tall rounded rectangle standing up, covering the end of the bar.

  3. Step 3: Two small plates

Outside each big plate, draw a smaller rounded rectangle, a little shorter, touching it.

  4. Step 4: Collars

Where the bar meets each big plate, draw a small rounded block round the bar, like a collar.

  5. Step 5: Shines

Down each big plate, draw 1 short curved shine line near its outside edge.

  6. Step 6: The shadow

Between the 2 big plates, draw a long flat oval shadow along their bottoms. Its ends tuck behind the plates.

  7. Step 7: The floor

From the bottom of each big plate, draw a floor line out towards the edge of the paper.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Above the dumbbell, draw 2 little sparkles, like plus signs with sides that dip in.

  9. Step 9: Grey bar and shadow

Colour the bar, the collars and the shadow light grey.

  10. Step 10: Yellow sparkles

    Colour the 2 sparkles yellow.

  11. Step 11: Slate plates

Colour all four plates slate grey. Go over your lines and your dumbbell is done!
