How to Draw a Dress Shoe
Draw a dress shoe in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: sole and heel.
Step 1: Sole and heel
Low on your paper, draw a long thin sole. Lift its back end onto a block heel.
Tip Leave a little gap under the middle of the sole, in front of the heel.
Step 2: Toe and slope
Start at the sole's front. Draw over a low round toe, climb a long slope and stop at the top.
Tip Keep the toe low and long. A dress shoe is sleek, not chunky.
Step 3: Opening and heel
From the top of the slope, dip like a saddle, rise to the heel, then curve down to the sole.
Step 4: Toe cap line
Start on the top edge of the toe. Draw a curved line down to the sole.
Step 5: Lace panel
Start on the dip near the top. Draw a J down beside the slope, curling up to touch it.
Step 6: Three laces
Across the panel, draw 3 short thick laces from the slope to the J line.
Step 7: Tied bow
At the very top of the slope, draw a small oval knot. Add a fat loop out each side.
Step 8: Heel seam
Start on the opening near the heel. Draw a curved line down to the sole.
Step 9: Toe shine
Along the top of the toe, just inside the edge, draw a long thin shine with round ends.
Tip Dress shoes are polished until they shine.
Step 10: The ground
Under the shoe, draw a long ground line that touches the front of the sole and the heel.
Step 11: Tan bow
Colour the 2 bow loops and the knot tan.
Step 12: Brown leather
Colour the shoe above the sole brown. Leave the shine white.
Step 13: Black sole
Colour the sole and the heel black. Your dress shoe is done!
