How to Draw a Dress
Draw a dress in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a round collar.
Step 1: A round collar
Draw a shallow scoop near the top, like a wide smile. From each end, hang a petal to a point.
Step 2: The top
From each end of the neckline, draw a short shoulder out, then curve down to a narrow waist. Join them.
Step 3: Big twirly skirt
From each end of the waist, draw a long line down, flaring out like a bell. Stop near the bottom.
Tip Join the bottoms with 7 soft bumps that sag in the middle.
Step 4: Puffy sleeves
From each shoulder, draw a puffy oblong out and round, back to touch the top's side. Add a cuff smile.
Step 5: The knot
In the middle of the waist line, draw a small tall oval for the knot of the bow.
Step 6: Two big bow loops
From each side of the knot, draw a big fat petal loop out past the dress, back to the knot.
Tip Add a short line from the knot into each loop.
Step 7: Ribbon tails
From under the knot, draw 2 ribbon tails hanging onto the skirt, one left, one right. Notch each end.
Step 8: Swishy pleats
From 2 dips in the hem, draw a long gentle line up into the skirt. Stop halfway up.
Step 9: Polka dots
Draw rows of small dots across the skirt, all the same size, shifted like bricks.
Tip Keep every dot a finger away from the lines.
Step 10: Yellow polka dots
Go over your lines, then colour all the polka dots yellow.
Step 11: Purple bow
Colour the whole bow purple, ribbon tails too.
Step 12: Colour the dress pink
Colour the top, sleeves and skirt pink, going around the bow and dots. Leave the collar white.
