How to Draw a Ship Wheel
Draw a ship wheel in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
In the middle of your paper draw 1 big circle. Draw a second circle just inside it.
Tip A cup or a plate can help you trace the circle.
Step 2: The hub
In the very middle draw a small circle for the hub.
Step 3: Up and down spokes
From the hub draw a spoke straight up to the ring and 1 straight down.
Step 4: Side spokes
Draw a spoke from the hub straight out to the ring on the left and on the right.
Step 5: Slanted spokes
Draw 4 more spokes from the hub to the ring, 1 between each pair. That makes 8.
Step 6: Top and side handles
Where the top spoke meets the ring, draw a short peg with a round knob. Do the side spokes too.
Step 7: Slanted handles
Give the 4 slanted spokes a peg and a knob too. Leave the bottom spoke plain.
Step 8: The stand
Start behind the hub and draw a thick post down to a wide base. Add a ground line under it.
Tip Only draw the post where you can see it, beside the bottom spoke.
Step 9: Tan handles
Colour the 7 pegs and their knobs tan.
Step 10: Brass hub, grey base
Colour the hub yellow like brass, and the base grey.
Step 11: Brown wood
Colour the ring, spokes and post brown, and leave the inside white. Your ship's wheel is ready to steer!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a ship wheel, drawn by you.
