How to Draw Dreadlocks
Draw dreadlocks in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
In the middle of your paper draw a big egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave room all around: the hair is wide and the locks hang low.
Step 2: Big eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 tall oval eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.
Step 3: Nose, smile and brows
Draw a tiny U nose below the eyes and a wide smile under it. Add an eyebrow over each eye.
Step 4: Hair cap
Draw the hair like a big cap over the head, wider than the face. Rub out the head inside it.
Tip Its bottom edge sits by the eyes at the sides and curves up over the forehead.
Step 5: Front locks
Under the cap, hang 2 ropes down each cheek, one short and one long. Rub out the face inside.
Tip Each lock is a rope with a round end. The long one will fall in front of the shoulder.
Step 6: Outside locks
Hang 2 more ropes on each side, leaning out a little. Make every rope a different length.
Step 7: Rope lines
Across each of the 4 inside locks, draw 3 little smile curves from edge to edge, top to bottom.
Tip The curves make each lock look like a twisted rope.
Step 8: More rope lines
Draw 3 smile curves down each of the 4 outside locks too.
Step 9: Neck and shirt
Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. Slope a shoulder out from each, behind the locks. Add a U collar.
Step 10: Light brown skin
Colour the cheeks pink, then the face and neck light brown around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Yellow shirt
Colour the shirt yellow, around the ends of the locks.
Step 12: Brown hair
Colour the hair cap and every lock brown. Go over your lines and you are done.
