How to Draw a Kid on a Swing

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a kid on a swing in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big egg head

Left of the middle draw a big egg for the head, tipped back a little.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the legs.

  2. Step 2: Happy face

On the right side of the head draw 2 tall oval eyes with black dots, and a smile under them.

Tip Leave a gap between the eyes, and keep them off the edge of the face.

  3. Step 3: Flying hair

Draw a fringe over the eyes and hair round the back of the head, with 3 locks flying out behind.

Tip The hair streams back because the swing is rushing forwards.

  4. Step 4: Leaning body

Under the head draw a T-shirt like a fat bean, leaning back to the left, round at the bottom.

  5. Step 5: Legs out front

From the T-shirt's bottom edge draw a trouser leg stretching out to the right. Add the other leg behind it.

Tip The legs get thinner towards the ankles, with a small bend at the knee.

  6. Step 6: Two shoes

On the end of each leg draw a round shoe with its toe pointing up.

  7. Step 7: The seat

Under the legs draw a long thin plank for the seat, tipped up at the front.

  8. Step 8: Sleeve and arm

On the shoulder draw a short sleeve. From it draw a bent arm reaching forwards, ending in a round fist.

Tip The elbow dips down, then the arm comes up to the fist.

  9. Step 9: The other fist

Beside the first fist draw the other fist peeking out from behind it.

Tip The other arm is hidden behind the first one.

  10. Step 10: Two ropes

Draw a straight rope through each fist: start high above the head, pass behind the legs, stop on the seat.

Tip Keep the 2 ropes side by side, leaning the same way.

  11. Step 11: The swing frame

Draw a long bar across the top of the ropes, a post down each side, and a ground line.

  12. Step 12: Peach skin, pink cheek

Colour a pink cheek, then the face around it and both arms peach. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Yellow top, red frame

Colour the T-shirt and sleeve yellow. Colour the shoes, the top bar and the 2 posts red.

  14. Step 14: Blue trousers, brown hair

Colour the trousers blue. Colour the hair and the seat brown.
