How to Draw an Aztec Warrior

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw an aztec warrior in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

Draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin. Leave lots of room above it.

Tip The tall feathers go above the head, and the body and legs go below.

  2. Step 2: The face

Below the middle of the head draw 2 small oval eyes with a black dot. Add a nose and smile.

  3. Step 3: Headband and hair

Draw a headband across the forehead. Add hair over the top and down each side of the face.

  4. Step 4: Tall feathers

Draw 5 tall feathers fanning out from behind the hair. Add a line down the middle of each.

Tip Draw the middle feather first, straight up, then 2 on each side.

  5. Step 5: Neck and tunic

Draw 2 neck lines, then the tunic: start at one, stop at the other.

  6. Step 6: Feathered shield

Over the left sleeve draw a big round shield with a circle inside. Hang 3 feathers under it.

Tip The shield hides the whole left arm.

  7. Step 7: Belt and flap

Draw a belt across the tunic to the shield. Hang a wide flap from its middle, round at the bottom.

  8. Step 8: Arm and fist

From the right sleeve draw 2 lines slanting out, closer at the wrist. Stop there and add a round fist.

  9. Step 9: Legs

From the hem draw 2 lines down for each leg, closer at the ankle. Stop above the bottom.

  10. Step 10: Sandals and ground

Under each leg draw a sandal with a round heel and a long toe pointing out. Add a ground line.

  11. Step 11: Toothed club

Draw a long flat club up through the fist, with a handle below. Add 4 black square teeth each side.

Tip This wooden club is called a macuahuitl. Its teeth are sharp black stone.

  12. Step 12: Tan and yellow

Colour the skin tan. Leave the eyes white. Colour the headband, belt, flap and shield circle yellow.

  13. Step 13: Green and red

Colour all 8 feathers green. Colour the tunic and the shield red, around the yellow circle.

  14. Step 14: Brown and black

Colour the club and the sandals brown. Colour the hair black. Go over your lines. All done!
