How to Draw a Dragon Sleeping

15 steps · Tricky · about 11 min

Draw a dragon sleeping in 15 steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

On the left draw a big egg lying on its side, with a chubby snout at the bottom left.

Tip About half as tall as the whole dragon. Leave room on the right.

  2. Step 2: Horns and spikes

On top of the head draw 2 fat horns sweeping back like bananas. Add 3 little spikes down the back.

  3. Step 3: Sleepy closed eyes

On the front of the head draw 2 closed eyes: a short curved line each, arching up like a rainbow.

  4. Step 4: Smile, fang and nostril

Start low on the snout. Draw one long smile, stopping under the back eye. Add a fang and a nostril.

  5. Step 5: Ground and Zzz

Start under the snout. Draw a low ground line, stopping near the right edge. Add 3 Z's above the head.

Tip Leave a head-sized gap below for the body.

  6. Step 6: Back and bottom

Start on the head, just under the last spike. Draw down into a big round bottom, stopping on the ground.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and plate

Start under the chin. Draw a fat C tummy down to the ground. Add a tall egg tummy plate.

Tip Add 3 smiles across the plate, from edge to edge.

  8. Step 8: Near front leg

Start on the tummy. Draw a leg to a thin wrist and round paw, then back up to the chin.

  9. Step 9: Far front leg

Start on the plate's right edge. Draw the far leg down to a paw beside the first, and back.

  10. Step 10: Back foot and thigh

Draw a bun foot by the far paw. From the back draw a C thigh down to the foot.

  11. Step 11: The wing

Under the last spike draw a fat cone leaning back. From its point draw 3 dips down to the back.

Tip Add 3 straight lines from the cone's inside edge out to the 3 points.

  12. Step 12: Tail, spade and spikes

Start on the bottom above the back foot. Draw a tail sweeping right and up to an arrowhead spade.

Tip Keep it off the ground. Add 3 little spikes along the top.

  13. Step 13: Yellow tummy, pink cheek

Colour the tummy plate, the 2 horns and the tail spade yellow. Add a pink cheek under the back eye.

  14. Step 14: Green scales

Colour the head, body, legs and tail green, all around the yellow parts and the pink cheek.

  15. Step 15: Purple wing and spikes

Colour the wing and all the spikes purple, and your dragon is dozing.
