How to Draw an Elk
Draw an elk in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left of your paper draw a big round head, a little wider than tall, with soft cheeks.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the body.
Step 2: Eyes and nose
Draw 2 big eyes with black dots. Add a triangle nose. From its tip draw down to a w smile.
Step 3: Antlers and ears
On top of the head draw 2 tall antlers like bare winter trees. Add a leaf ear each side.
Step 4: The neck
Start behind the head and draw the neck down to the right. Draw the front from chin to chest.
Step 5: The body
Start at the neck. Draw a big bean body with a long back and round bottom, back to the chest.
Step 6: Shaggy mane
From the back behind the neck, draw 5 soft bumps down to the chest for a shaggy mane.
Step 7: Two legs
Draw a low ground line. From the chest draw a front leg down to a hoof, then a back leg.
Tip A hoof is a little doorstop, flat on the ground.
Step 8: The far legs
Start on the tummy behind the front leg. Draw a thinner leg down to a hoof. Repeat at the back.
Step 9: The tail
On the top corner of the bottom draw a little leaf tail pointing up and back, like a small flag.
Step 10: Pale patch
From the back in front of the tail, draw a C down to the back leg for a pale patch.
Step 11: Light colours first
Colour the ear insides peach, and the pale patch and tail sand. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Colour it wood
Colour the antlers tan. Colour the head, ears, body and legs wood brown, around the pale parts and the mane.
Step 13: Dark colours last
Colour the mane dark brown and the hooves grey.
