18 steps · Tricky · about 14 min

Draw a dragon on treasure in 18 steps, about 14 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bumpy head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Bumpy head

On the left, above the middle, draw a big bumpy egg lying down, with a chubby snout at bottom left.

Tip Leave room on the right for the body and below for the gold.

  2. Step 2: Horns and spikes

On top of the head draw 2 fat horns sweeping back like bananas. Add 3 little spikes down the back.

Tip Horns lean back, not up.

  3. Step 3: 2 big eyes

Across the middle of the head draw 2 big tall oval eyes close together, with black dots and shines.

  4. Step 4: Smile, fang and nostril

Start on the snout. Draw a long smile that stops under the back eye. Add a fang and a nostril.

  5. Step 5: Paws under the chin

Under the chin draw 2 round bun paws side by side. Give each one 2 short toe lines.

  6. Step 6: Long low body

Start behind the head, under the spikes. Draw a long low back, a round bottom, and a flat tummy.

Tip The tummy line is level with the bottom of the paws.

  7. Step 7: Back leg

Draw a bun foot under the tummy. From the back, draw a C thigh down to the foot.

Tip Rub out the tummy line inside the foot.

  8. Step 8: Pile of gold

Draw a low ground line. Draw a big hill of gold under the dragon, with 4 bumps down each side.

  9. Step 9: Tail down the pile

Start on the round bottom. Draw a fat tail down the side of the pile, curling forward and getting thinner.

Tip Rub out the pile line inside the tail.

  10. Step 10: Tail spade

On the end of the tail draw an arrowhead spade pointing forward.

  11. Step 11: Bat wing

Start on the back. Draw a tall thin cone leaning back, then 3 sags down to the back.

Tip The wing is about as tall as the head.

  12. Step 12: Wing ribs

From the middle of the cone draw 3 straight ribs out to the 3 points of the wing.

  13. Step 13: Back spikes

Draw 2 pointy spikes standing on the back, between the head and the wing.

  14. Step 14: Gold coins

Draw 7 round coins on the pile: 4 in a row near the top and 3 lower down.

  15. Step 15: Coin shines

Inside each coin draw a small curve near the edge to make it shine.

  16. Step 16: Yellow gold

Colour the pile of gold, all the coins, the tail spade and the 2 horns yellow.

  17. Step 17: Purple and pink

Colour the wing and all the spikes purple. Add a pink cheek under the back eye.

  18. Step 18: Green scales

Colour the head, body, paws, back foot and tail green, around the cheek. Leave the eyes white.
