How to Draw an Australian Shepherd
Draw an Australian shepherd in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big oval head.
Step 1: Big oval head
Near the top, draw a big oval head, a little wider than tall. Leave room underneath.
Tip Make the head big: almost half the height of the drawing.
Step 2: Folded triangle ears
Start high on each side. Draw a soft triangle ear folding down, ending on the head at eye level.
Tip Keep the ears short: the tips stop beside the eyes.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Just above the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes, a gap apart. Add black dots with shines.
Step 4: Nose
Under the eyes, draw a wide oval inside the head. Sit a black triangle nose on top of it.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose point, draw a short line down to a w smile. Hang a small U tongue from it.
Step 6: The body
Start low on each cheek. Draw a big C down each side, ending near the bottom. Join them.
Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.
Step 7: Collar and tag
Under the chin, draw 2 sagging curves from one side of the body over to the other. Add a tag.
Step 8: Chest and front legs
Hang a fluffy U chest from the collar. Draw 2 legs from under it down to round paws with toes.
Tip Leave a little gap between the legs.
Step 9: Paws, tail and ground
Draw a hill paw with toes at each bottom corner, a bob tail on the right, and the ground.
Step 10: White blaze
Draw 2 lines down the middle of the face, from the top of the head to the nose.
Step 11: Copper spots, dark patches
Colour small copper spots above and under each eye, then 3 dark grey patches on the body and head.
Step 12: Pink tongue, blue collar
Colour the tongue pink and the collar blue.
Step 13: Grey fur
Colour the fur grey around everything already coloured. Leave the eyes, blaze, snout, chest, legs and paws white.
