How to Draw a Donut

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a donut in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: donut ring.

Print

  1. Step 1: Donut ring

Start at 2 o'clock. Draw a big round shape all the way around, stopping at 12 o'clock for a gap.

Tip A donut is a little wider than tall. The gap is for the bite.

  2. Step 2: The bite

From the top of the gap, draw 2 round C's with a point between, down to the gap's bottom.

Tip Draw a second line just inside: that is the dough inside the bite.

  3. Step 3: The hole

Near the middle of the ring, below the bite, draw a squashed oval. Draw a bigger oval around it.

Tip The hole is about a third as wide as the donut.

  4. Step 4: Drippy frosting

Start on the left of the ring, below the hole. Draw 5 U drips across and stop on the right.

Tip The middle drip is longest. Put a sharp point between drips.

  5. Step 5: Sprinkles on top

On the frosting beside and above the hole, draw 5 short fat sticks with round ends, tilted different ways.

Tip Keep sprinkles off the ring, the hole and the bite.

  6. Step 6: More sprinkles

Draw 6 more sticks on the lower half of the frosting, away from the drips.

Tip Space them out so no 2 sprinkles touch.

  7. Step 7: Frosting shine

Inside the ring at the top left, draw a short curve like a rainbow. Add a tiny circle past it.

Tip The shine follows the curve of the ring, a finger inside it.

  8. Step 8: A plate

Start low on the ring's left. Draw a flat oval out, round under the donut, back to the ring's right.

Tip Make the plate a little wider than the donut, with the donut sitting in its middle.

  9. Step 9: Colourful sprinkles

Go over your lines. Colour the sprinkles, some sky blue and some yellow.

  10. Step 10: Pink frosting, tan dough

Colour the frosting pink around the sprinkles. Colour the dough tan under the drips, in the bite and the hole.

Tip Leave the middle of the hole and the plate white.
