How to Draw a Dogwood Tree
Draw a dogwood tree in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the leafy top.
Step 1: The leafy top
Start on the left, near the middle. Draw a rainbow of 9 big soft bumps up and over, stopping level.
Tip A dogwood is a small tree with a wide, spreading top.
Step 2: Bumps underneath
Start where the rainbow ended. Draw 5 shallow bumps hanging down and across to meet the other end.
Step 3: The trunk
From under the leaves, draw a line down, curving out into a root. Do the same on the other side.
Tip Keep the trunk slim and short.
Step 4: Two branches
From the bottom of the leaves, draw a V down into the trunk and back up. Round its point.
Step 5: First flower
High in the middle of the leaves draw a small circle. Around it draw 4 petals, like a plus.
Tip Each petal is wide and round, with a little dent in its tip.
Step 6: Two more flowers
Draw the same flower on each side of the first one: a small circle, then 4 dented petals.
Step 7: A lower row
Underneath, draw 4 more of the same flower in a row, below the gaps.
Tip Keep every flower clear of the others and of the edge.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line under the roots from edge to edge. Add 4 short grass blades.
Step 9: Yellow middles
Colour the middle of each flower yellow. Leave all the petals white.
Step 10: Green leaves and grass
Colour the leaves green, around the white flowers. Colour the grass under the ground line green too.
Step 11: Brown trunk
Colour the trunk and both branches brown. Leave the V between them white. Your dogwood tree is done!
