14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a dog swimming in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big soft head

Up on the left draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round cheeks.

Tip Leave room below and on the right for the body.

  2. Step 2: Wet floppy ears

Draw a long ear hanging flat down the right side of the head and a small one on the left.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the big ear.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and smile

Under the eyes draw an oval snout poking out past the head. Add a black nose and a smile.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.

  5. Step 5: Long back

Start behind the big ear. Draw down the neck and along a long back. Stop low on the rump.

  6. Step 6: Paddling front leg

Start under the chin. Draw a leg that bends forward and up to a round paw. Stop under the chest.

Tip The elbow points down and the paw reaches up.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

Start at the front leg. Draw the tummy, then a back leg kicking back. Stop at the rump.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Start on the tummy. Draw 2 more paddling legs peeking out behind. Stop at the near legs.

  9. Step 9: Tail and toes

Start on the rump. Draw a thin tail curving up and stop on the rump. Add toes to the paws.

  10. Step 10: Wavy water

Start at the far left. Draw a wavy line behind the chin and neck. Stop at the far right.

Tip Only the head, the neck and the tail tip are above the water.

  11. Step 11: Little splash

Above the water, behind the head, draw 3 small drops splashing up.

  12. Step 12: Cream and tan

Colour the snout cream. Colour the head, body, legs and tail tan. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Brown ears

    Colour both ears brown.

  14. Step 14: Blue water

Colour the water blue under the wavy line, all around the dog. Colour the drops blue too.
