How to Draw a Dodo
Draw a dodo in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Start low on the left, draw a big upside-down U for the head, and stop low on the right.
Step 2: Huge hooked beak
From the front of the head, draw a long fat beak out to the left, curling down into a hook.
Tip The dodo's beak is enormous, like a hooked banana.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the beak, draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Plump body
From the back of the head, draw a big curve down round a fat belly and up to the beak.
Tip Head and body are one big egg shape, with no line across the neck.
Step 5: Curly tail puff
On the back of the rump, draw a fluffy tail of 3 round bumps curling up, like a little cloud.
Step 6: Tiny stubby wing
On the side of the body under the head, draw a tiny teardrop wing, no bigger than the eye.
Tip Dodos could not fly, so the wing is just a stub.
Step 7: Front leg and toes
Under the front of the tummy, draw a leg thinning to 3 chubby toes, 2 forward and 1 back.
Step 8: Back leg and toes
Further back under the tummy, draw the other leg the same way, toes on the ground. Leave a gap between.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start at the left edge. Draw a long ground line to the right edge, hopping over the feet. Add grass.
Step 10: Cream tail, yellow legs
Colour the fluffy tail cream. Colour both legs and their toes yellow.
Step 11: Tan beak
Colour the huge hooked beak tan.
Step 12: Grey dodo
Colour the head, body and wing grey, going around the eye. Leave the eye white.
