How to Draw Dirt
Draw dirt in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big mound.
Step 1: The big mound
Near the bottom, start on the left. Draw a big soft hill up and over, ending level on the right.
Tip Make it wide, like a pile someone just dug up.
Step 2: The ground
Draw the ground line from the left edge to the right edge, along the bottom of the mound.
Step 3: The shovel handle
Start on top of the mound. Draw a long thin post up, stopping a hand above. Close the top.
Step 4: The grip
Across the top of the handle draw a thin sideways pill for the T grip, 3 fingers wide.
Step 5: Pebbles
On the mound draw 3 little pebbles: one low left, one low right, one near the handle.
Step 6: A worm
Start on the right slope. Draw a fat wavy worm wiggling up out of the dirt, with a round head.
Step 7: Worm face
Give the worm an eye near the top of its head and a small smile below it.
Step 8: Flecks of dirt
Dot 3 little flecks of dirt low on the mound, in the empty spaces.
Step 9: Grass
On the ground at each side draw a tuft of grass: 2 short curved blades leaning apart.
Step 10: Pink worm
Colour the worm pink, head too.
Step 11: Grey pebbles, wood handle
Colour the pebbles grey and the shovel handle and grip wood brown.
Step 12: Brown dirt
Colour the whole mound brown, around the pebbles. Your pile of dirt is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: dirt, drawn by you.
