How to Draw a Diamond Pattern
Draw a diamond pattern in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the square.
Step 1: The square
In the middle of your paper draw a big square with softly rounded corners, nearly as big as your page.
Step 2: Six small marks
Make 2 light marks on the top edge and 2 on the bottom, in thirds. Mark each side halfway down.
Tip Thirds means 3 equal parts. Measure with a ruler if you like.
Step 3: Up and down
From the left mark, rule a line up to the nearest top mark, then down to the bottom right corner.
Tip Use a ruler, or go slowly: straight lines make neat diamonds.
Step 4: The other side
From the right mark, rule a line up to the nearest top mark, then down to the bottom left corner.
Step 5: Down and up
From the left mark, rule a line down to the nearest bottom mark, then up to the top right corner.
Step 6: The last line
From the right mark, rule a line down to the nearest bottom mark, then up to the top left corner.
Tip Count them: 7 whole diamonds, with triangles all round the edge.
Step 7: Sparkles
Rub out your 6 marks. Draw 4 small sparkle stars just off the corners of the square.
Step 8: Cream diamonds
Go over your lines. Colour the 2 upper diamonds, the 2 lower diamonds and the 4 side triangles cream.
Step 9: Yellow sparkles
Colour the 4 sparkles yellow.
Step 10: Red diamonds
Colour the 3 diamonds across the middle red.
Step 11: Blue triangles
Colour the 3 triangles along the top and the 3 along the bottom blue. Your diamond pattern is done!
