How to Draw a Running Deer

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a running deer in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

Near the top left draw a big egg head lying on its side. Leave room above for antlers.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.

  2. Step 2: Leaf ears

On each top corner of the head draw a leaf ear pointing up and out, with a small leaf inside.

Tip The left ear is a little smaller.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and smile

Under the left eye draw a snout poking past the head. From its black nose, draw down to a smile.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.

  5. Step 5: Two antlers

On top of the head draw 2 antlers curving up. Give each one a short branch pointing out.

Tip Each antler starts wide on the head and ends in round tips.

  6. Step 6: Neck and back

Start below the right ear. Draw down the neck, along a long back, and stop half way round the bottom.

Tip The neck is thick. The back is long and gently curved.

  7. Step 7: Reaching front leg

From under the chin draw the chest, then a leg reaching forward to a hoof and back to the body.

Tip The leg bends at the knee and gets thinner. The hoof is a little block.

  8. Step 8: Kicking back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then draw a wide thigh kicking back to a hoof.

Tip The back leg bends half way down. Join it to the end of the back.

  9. Step 9: Far legs

Draw 2 more legs peeking out: one above the front leg, one under the back leg.

Tip Only draw the part you can see. Each one ends in a hoof.

  10. Step 10: Tail and whoosh

On the bottom draw a leaf tail standing up. Behind the deer draw 2 short whoosh lines.

Tip All 4 hooves are off the ground. The deer is in the air!

  11. Step 11: Three spots

Draw 3 small oval spots on the back.

  12. Step 12: Cream and peach

Colour the snout cream and the inside of each ear peach.

  13. Step 13: Colour it ginger

Colour the deer ginger, around the snout and ear middles. Leave the eyes, tail and spots white.

  14. Step 14: Antlers and hooves

Colour the antlers brown and the 4 hooves dark grey. Your running deer is done!
