How to Draw a Daruma

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a daruma in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round body.

Print

  1. Step 1: The round body

In the middle of your paper draw a big round body, wider at the bottom, with a flat base.

Tip A daruma has no arms or legs: it rocks and stands back up.

  2. Step 2: The face patch

Inside the top half of the body draw a smaller rounded face shape. Leave a thick band all round it.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

In the face patch draw 2 big round eyes a gap apart. Add a big black dot in each.

  4. Step 4: Thick eyebrows

Over each eye draw a thick curved eyebrow like a fat leaf.

  5. Step 5: Nose, smile and cheeks

Between the eyes draw a tiny U nose. Under it draw a small smile with a cheek at each end.

  6. Step 6: The belly patch

Low on the body, under the face patch, draw a sideways oval for the gold belly patch.

  7. Step 7: Gold swirl

Inside the belly patch draw 1 swirl. Curl it round in the middle, then sweep its tail out to the right.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a long ground line under the flat bottom of the body.

  9. Step 9: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars around the daruma, one near each corner.

  10. Step 10: Gold belly, pink cheeks

Colour the belly patch yellow like gold, the cheeks pink and the sparkles yellow.

  11. Step 11: Red body

Colour the body red, around the face patch and the gold patch. Leave the face white.

  12. Step 12: Black eyebrows

Colour the eyebrows black, leaving the eyes white round the dots. Go over your lines. Make a wish!
