How to Draw a Daikon

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a daikon in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long body.

Print

  1. Step 1: Long body

In the middle draw a long radish with round shoulders and long sides, narrowing to a point near the bottom.

Tip A daikon is long: about twice as tall as it is wide.

  2. Step 2: 2 big eyes

Below the shoulders draw 2 big egg eyes, a little apart. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a U smile, eye to eye, and a small flat oval cheek beside each end.

  4. Step 4: 3 stems

From the top draw 3 short stems, thinner at the top: 1 straight up and 1 leaning out each side.

  5. Step 5: 3 wavy leaves

On the end of each stem draw a big long leaf with a wavy edge and a pointed tip.

  6. Step 6: Leaf veins

Start on each stem tip. Draw 1 line up the middle of its leaf, stopping near the tip.

  7. Step 7: Thin root

Start on the bottom point. Draw a thin root curving gently down, stopping where the ground will go.

  8. Step 8: Skin lines

On the lower body draw 3 short skin lines, each starting on the edge and curving a little way in.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Draw a long ground line from left to right under the daikon, just touching the end of the root.

  10. Step 10: White radish

Go over your lines, then colour the body with a white crayon, around the cheeks.

    Tip Keep the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Green leaves, pink cheeks

Colour the stems and leaves green, and the cheeks pink, and your daikon is done!
