How to Draw a Dad and Kid
Draw a dad and kid in 17 steps, about 13 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two heads.
Step 1: Two heads
Draw 2 egg heads: a big one top left for dad, a small one lower right for the kid.
Tip The kid is half as tall. Leave a gap between them for the hands.
Step 2: The dad's face
Draw 2 big eyes, 2 brows, a U nose and a smile. C ears start and stop on the head.
Step 3: The kid's face
On the small head draw 2 round eyes with dots, a tiny U nose and a smile.
Step 4: Dad's hair
On the big head, start at the left eyebrow. Draw round tufts over the top, down to the right eyebrow.
Step 5: The kid's hair
Start on the small head's side, above the eye. Draw round tufts over the top, down to the other side.
Step 6: Necks and shirt
From each chin draw 2 short neck lines. Draw dad's shirt with a collar and tie that meet his neck.
Step 7: Striped T-shirt
From the kid's neck draw a T-shirt with short sleeves. Add 2 lines from side to side for a stripe.
Step 8: Arms
From each sleeve draw an arm with a soft elbow, thinner at the wrist. Inner arms reach toward each other.
Tip The 2 inner arms make a V pointing down between them.
Step 9: Holding hands
Draw a round mitten on each outer arm. In the gap draw dad's mitten, then the kid's mitten over it.
Step 10: Dad's trousers
Start at dad's shirt corner. Draw long trousers down and back up to the other corner. Add a belt line.
Step 11: Shorts and legs
Start at the kid's T-shirt corner. Draw shorts down and back up to the other corner. Add 2 legs.
Step 12: Shoes and ground
Under each leg draw a round shoe, toe pointing out. Draw one long ground line under all the shoes.
Step 13: The dad's skin
Colour dad's face, ears, neck, arms and hands peach. Leave the eyes white.
Step 14: The kid's skin
Colour the kid's face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach. Leave the eyes white.
Step 15: Yellow T-shirt
Colour the kid's T-shirt yellow, leaving the stripe white.
Step 16: Blue shirt, red tie
Colour dad's shirt and the kid's shorts blue, and dad's tie red.
Step 17: Grey trousers, brown hair
Colour the dad's trousers grey, and all the hair and shoes brown. Go over your lines and you're done.
