How to Draw a Cross with Wings

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a cross with wings in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall post.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall post

In the middle of your paper draw a tall thin box standing up.

Tip Leave lots of room on both sides for the wings.

  2. Step 2: The side arms

Start on the post near the top. Draw a square arm out to each side. Stop back on the post.

Tip Rub out the post lines inside the arms, so the cross is one shape.

  3. Step 3: Two wing tops

Start on the post just above each arm. Draw a long arch up and out. Stop at a wing tip.

Tip Each arch climbs fast at first, then flattens out towards the tip.

  4. Step 4: Tip feathers

Start at each wing tip. Draw 3 round feathers stepping down towards the cross. Stop beside the arm.

Tip Each feather is a fat U bump, like a finger of a mitten.

  5. Step 5: Lower feathers

Start where you stopped. Draw 2 more round feathers stepping down. Stop on the post below the arm.

  6. Step 6: Small feathers

Start on the wing top above the first feather point. Draw 2 long bumps down. Stop at the arm's end.

  7. Step 7: Feather lines

Start at each point between the big feathers. Draw a line up to the point above. Stop there.

Tip The last line on each side stops under the arm.

  8. Step 8: The shine

Near the top of the cross draw a small tilted oval for a shine.

  9. Step 9: Sparkles

Below each wing draw a sparkle star with 4 points.

Tip A sparkle is a tall thin diamond crossed with a wide thin one.

  10. Step 10: Golden cross

Colour the cross and the 2 sparkles golden yellow. Leave the shine white.

  11. Step 11: Sky-blue wing tops

Colour the top band of each wing sky blue, down to the row of small bumps.

  12. Step 12: Blue feathers

Colour the big feathers on both wings a deeper blue. Your cross with wings is done!
