How to Draw a Croque Monsieur
Draw a croque monsieur in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
A little below the middle of your paper draw a big flat oval plate, as wide as your hand.
Step 2: The rim
Draw a second oval a finger inside the plate, all the way round, for the rim.
Step 3: The bottom toast
On the plate draw the bottom toast: a long low box, with a slanted strip going back on the right.
Tip Think of a flat box lying on the plate.
Step 4: The ham
On top draw a thin slab of ham the same way, poking out past the toast on the left.
Step 5: The top toast
On the ham draw the top toast: another low slab, this time with a flat slanted top going back.
Step 6: Melted cheese
On the toast draw a big wobbly blob of cheese, with 2 fat round drips spilling over the front.
Tip On a croque monsieur the cheese is melted on top.
Step 7: Browned patches
On the cheese draw 3 soft wavy patches of different sizes in a loose row, for browned spots.
Step 8: Steam
Above the sandwich draw 2 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 9: The table
Draw a line under the plate from well left to well right, just touching its bottom.
Step 10: Tan toast
Go over your lines, then colour both slices of toast tan, around the cheese.
Step 11: Yellow cheese, pink ham
Colour the cheese and its drips yellow around the patches, and the ham pink.
Step 12: Sky plate, brown patches
Colour the plate sky blue around the sandwich, then colour the patches brown.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a croque monsieur, drawn by you.
