How to Draw a Cownose Ray

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a cownose ray in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and pointy wings.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head and pointy wings

Draw 2 round bumps, like a heart top. From each bump sweep out to a wing tip, then back in.

Tip The 2 bumps look like a cow's nose. That is its name!

  2. Step 2: Notch line

In the dip between the 2 head bumps draw a short curved line, like a tiny smile.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Under the bumps draw 2 big egg eyes with a gap between, each with a black dot and shine.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from eye to eye, and a small oval cheek at each end.

  5. Step 5: Long whip tail

From the bottom point draw a long thin tail that curves down, swings right and climbs to a point.

Tip The tail is longer than the whole body.

  6. Step 6: Two little fins

Where the tail leaves the body draw a small round fin on each side, like 2 tiny petals.

  7. Step 7: Bubbles and sea floor

Beside the head draw 3 little bubbles going up. Draw a long wavy line across the bottom of the paper.

  8. Step 8: Colour it brown

Colour the body, wings, fins and tail brown, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  9. Step 9: Pink cheeks, sandy floor

Colour the 2 cheeks pink and the floor under the wavy line sandy.

  10. Step 10: Blue bubbles

Colour the bubbles light blue. Go over your lines and your cownose ray is done!
