How to Draw a Caracal

Step 1: Big soft head

Near the top, draw a big egg on its side for the head. Leave room above it for tall ears.

Tip The head is almost half of the whole caracal.

Step 2: Tall tufted ears

On each top corner, draw a tall pointy ear with a long tuft on the tip. Add a triangle inside.

Tip The long tufts, like paintbrush tips, are what make it a caracal.

Step 3: Two big eyes

In the middle of the head, draw 2 big oval eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots and white shines.

Step 4: Nose and W smile

Under the eyes, draw a small upside-down triangle nose. From its point, draw a W smile.

Tip Both smile curves start at the very same spot on the nose.

Step 5: Round muzzle

Start on the chin. Draw a round muzzle up over the nose and smile, and back down to the chin.

Step 6: Tear lines and whiskers

Draw a short line from each eye down to the muzzle. Add 2 whiskers on each cheek.

Tip The dark tear lines are a caracal's face mark.

Step 7: Plump body

Start under each cheek. Draw a big C down and round, to meet in the middle at the bottom.

Tip The body is never wider than the head.

Step 8: Front legs

Start under the chin, draw a U leg down to a mitten paw. Add a paw curve and 2 toes.

Tip Wide at the top, thin at the ankle. Draw both legs.

Step 9: Back paws and ground

Under each side, draw a bun back paw with 2 toes, behind the front paw. Draw the ground under them.

Step 10: Tapered tail

From the right back paw, draw a tail curving up to a thin tip. Add a line near the tip.

Tip Thick at the body, thin at the tip.

Step 11: Cream muzzle and chest

Colour the muzzle and the chest between the front legs cream.

Step 12: Peach ears, pink nose

Colour the ear insides peach and the nose pink.

Step 13: Ginger coat

Colour the head, ears, body, legs and tail ginger, around the cream, peach and pink. Leave the eyes white.

Step 14: Black tufts and tip

Colour the ear tufts and the tail tip black. Your caracal is ready!
