How to Draw Counting on Fingers

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw counting on fingers in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: five palms.

Print

  1. Step 1: Five palms

Across the middle of your paper, draw 5 small palms in a row: flat on top, rounded underneath.

Tip Make all 5 the same size, with a gap between them.

  2. Step 2: One finger

Start at the top right corner of the first palm. Draw 1 tall finger and stop on the palm top.

Tip Rub out the palm line under the finger, so the finger and palm join up.

  3. Step 3: Two fingers

Start top right on the second palm. Draw 2 tall fingers, stop on the palm top. Add a line between.

Tip Rub out the palm line under the fingers each time.

  4. Step 4: Three fingers

Start top right on the third palm. Draw 3 tall fingers, stop on the palm top. Add 2 lines between.

Tip The middle finger is the tallest.

  5. Step 5: Four fingers

Start top right on the fourth palm. Draw 4 tall fingers, stop top left. Add 3 lines between them.

Tip The little finger on the left is the shortest.

  6. Step 6: The open hand

Start top right on the last palm. Draw 4 tall fingers again, stop top left. Add 3 lines between.

  7. Step 7: A thumb out

Start where the last hand's first finger begins. Draw a thumb sticking out, and stop lower on the palm edge.

Tip Rub out the palm line inside the thumb. This hand shows 5.

  8. Step 8: Curled fingers

On the first 3 palms, start beside the tall fingers. Draw short curled fingers along the top, stop top left.

Tip 3 short fingers on the first palm, 2 on the second and 1 on the third. Every hand has 4 fingers.

  9. Step 9: Folded thumbs

On the first 4 palms, start on the right edge. Draw a thumb across, and stop back on the edge.

Tip A folded thumb does not count, so these hands show 1, 2, 3 and 4.

  10. Step 10: Sleeve cuffs

Across the bottom of each palm, draw a wide rounded cuff, a little wider than the palm.

Tip Rub out the bottom of each palm where the cuff covers it.

  11. Step 11: Peach hands

Go over your lines. Colour all 5 hands peach, or any skin colour you like.

  12. Step 12: Yellow and orange cuffs

Colour the third cuff yellow and the second cuff orange.

  13. Step 13: Red and green cuffs

Colour the first cuff red and the fourth cuff green.

  14. Step 14: Blue cuff

Colour the last cuff blue. Now count along the row, from 1 finger up to 5!
