How to Draw a Witch

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a bit narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room above for the tall hat, and lots below for the dress.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big eyes with a black dot, shine and lash. Add a tiny nose, a smile and 2 eyebrows.

Step 3: Hair and fringe

Draw hair over the top of the head, just outside the head line. Add a curved fringe across the forehead.

Step 4: Long hair

On each side of the head draw long hair hanging from the temple, past the cheek, down to the shoulder.

Step 5: Pointed hat

Draw a wide brim. From near its left end, draw a tall bent cone down to near its right end.

Tip Make the cone taller than the head and wide at the bottom, so no hair peeks above the brim.

Step 6: Neck and dress

Draw 2 neck lines. From the left, draw a round-shouldered dress with a wide hem, ending at the right one.

Step 7: Long sleeves

From each shoulder draw a sleeve, bent at the elbow and narrow at the wrist. The right one swings out.

Tip Start each sleeve at the top of the round shoulder.

Step 8: Mitten hands

On each sleeve end draw a round mitten hand, like the bottom of an egg, with a little thumb bump.

Step 9: Broomstick

From beside the hat draw a handle through the fist, stopping low. Add fat bristles, a tie and 3 lines.

Tip The bristles flare out like a fat skirt under the handle.

Step 10: Legs, shoes and ground

From the hem draw 2 short legs down, stopping low. Add a shoe under each, then a ground line.

Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck, hands and legs peach, with a pink circle on each cheek.

Tip Keep the eyes white.

Step 12: Ginger hair, brown broom

Colour the hair ginger, and the broom handle, tie and bristles brown.

Step 13: Purple hat and dress

Colour the hat, dress and sleeves purple, and the shoes black. Your witch is done!
