How to Draw a Clown

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw an egg head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: Face and red nose

Across the middle of the head, draw 2 big eyes with eyebrows. Add a big ball nose and wide smile.

Step 3: Curly hair

Draw 5 round hair bumps on each side of the head, starting and stopping on it. Leave the top bald.

Step 4: Neck and suit

Draw 2 neck lines. From them, draw round shoulders and a suit down to the waist, leaving arm gaps.

Step 5: Big bow tie

Under the chin draw a big bow tie: two fat triangles pointing in to a round knot in the middle.

Step 6: Long sleeves

From each shoulder and armpit, draw a sleeve down to the wrist, bending softly at the elbow. Add a cuff.

Tip Leave the top of each sleeve open, so it grows right out of the shoulder.

Step 7: Mitten hands

Under each sleeve, draw a round mitten hand like the bottom of an egg, with a little thumb pointing in.

Step 8: Trousers

From the suit's bottom left corner, draw 2 trouser legs with an upside-down V between. Stop at the right corner.

Step 9: Polka dots

Draw big round dots on the suit and the trousers, three on the top and one on a leg.

Step 10: Big shoes

Under each leg, draw a huge shoe with a long fat toe pointing out.

Step 11: Ground line

Start left of the left shoe. Draw a long ground line under both shoes, past the right toe.

Step 12: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour pink cheeks. Colour the head, neck and hands peach, around the cheeks and the nose.

Tip Leave the eyes white.

Step 13: Yellow suit, orange hair

Colour the suit, sleeves and trousers yellow, around the dots and bow tie. Colour the curly hair orange.

Step 14: Red nose, blue dots

Colour the nose, bow tie and shoes red, and the dots blue. Go over your lines and you're done!
