How to Draw a Sitting Cross Legged

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a sitting cross legged in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave the lower half of the page for the body and the crossed legs.

  2. Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big eyes, a nose and a smile. Start a C ear each side, ending on the head.

  3. Step 3: Tufty hair

Start above the left ear and draw round tufts over the head, down to the right ear. Add a hairline.

  4. Step 4: Neck and T-shirt

Draw 2 short neck lines. From them draw a T-shirt with short sleeves pointing out, down to a flat bottom.

  5. Step 5: Arms reaching out

From each sleeve draw an arm slanting down and out, getting thinner towards the wrist.

Tip The arms make an upside-down V, like a tent.

  6. Step 6: Mitten hands

On the end of each arm draw a round mitten hand. Add a short curved thumb line inside.

  7. Step 7: Front leg

Start at the T-shirt corner. Draw out round the knee, along the shin and back up. Stop halfway.

Tip The leg folds at the knee and gets thinner towards the ankle.

  8. Step 8: Front shoe

On the end of the shin draw a shoe with a round toe. Add a curved toe line.

Tip Keep the bottom of the shoe flat, ready for the floor.

  9. Step 9: Back leg

Start at the other T-shirt corner. Draw the same leg on the right. Stop at the shoe and the shin.

Tip This shin goes behind the first one and behind the shoe.

  10. Step 10: Back shoe and floor

Under the left shin draw a round shoe toe peeking out. Add a toe line and a long floor line.

Tip Each foot tucks under the other knee.

  11. Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour a pink circle on each cheek. Colour the face, ears, neck, arms and hands peach around them.

    Tip Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Yellow T-shirt, red shoes

Colour the T-shirt yellow and the 2 shoes red.

  13. Step 13: Blue trousers

Colour both folded legs blue, right up to the T-shirt.

  14. Step 14: Brown hair

Colour the hair brown. Now you can sit cross-legged just like your drawing!
