How to Draw a Cottage

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a cottage in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the thatched roof.

Print

  1. Step 1: The thatched roof

Near the top of your paper draw a tall pointy roof. Its bottom is a thick brim with round ends.

Tip A thatched roof is thick and droopy, like a straw hat.

  2. Step 2: The walls

Start on the brim near the left end. Draw a plump wall down, across, and up. Stop on the brim.

  3. Step 3: The door

In the middle of the wall draw a door with a rainbow top. Add a heart and a knob.

  4. Step 4: Stoop and ground

Start under the wall left of the door. Draw a step down, across, up to the wall. Add ground lines.

  5. Step 5: Two windows

On each side of the door draw a big square window. Give each a plus sign from edge to edge.

  6. Step 6: Flower boxes

Under each window draw a long flat box. Sit 3 round flowers on it, in front of the window.

  7. Step 7: Chimney and smoke

Start on the left slope. Draw a chimney up with a wider cap and stop on the roof. Add smoke.

  8. Step 8: Thatch bumps

Just above the brim draw a row of little hill bumps across the roof. Add a shorter row halfway up.

  9. Step 9: Tulips

Draw 2 tulip cups by each wall. Start under each, draw a stem down to the ground with a leaf.

  10. Step 10: The garden path

From under each end of the stoop draw a line sloping out, stopping near the bottom. Add a step.

  11. Step 11: Sky windows, pink flowers

Colour the windows sky blue, and the flowers and heart pink. Leave the steps, path and smoke white.

  12. Step 12: Cream walls, straw roof

Colour the walls cream around the windows and door, and the roof tan like straw.

  13. Step 13: Red door, green leaves

Colour the door red around its heart, then the chimney and tulips red and the leaves green.

Tip Go over your lines, and your cottage is done!
