How to Draw a Black-Eyed Susan
Draw a black-eyed Susan in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the dark dome.
Step 1: The dark dome
Near the top of your paper draw a dome, like half an egg, as big as a walnut.
Tip The 'black eye' is the dark dome. The petals hang down from under it.
Step 2: Petals under the dome
Under the dome draw 2 long thin petals hanging down, one each side of the middle, with a gap between.
Step 3: Petals to the sides
Under the dome draw more thin petals fanning out left and right, each a little more sideways, with gaps between.
Step 4: The outside petals
Draw the last 2 petals pointing almost straight out to the left and right, under the dome's edges.
Step 5: Dots and petal lines
Put 4 dots on the dome. Draw a short line from the dome along the middle of each petal.
Step 6: The stem
Start between the 2 middle petals. Draw a curving stem down near the bottom, getting wider as it goes.
Step 7: Two leaves
Draw a long pointed leaf each side of the stem, the right one lower. Give each a vein line.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line across the stem bottom, stopping short of both edges, and a pointed grass tuft each side.
Step 9: Golden petals
Go over your lines, then colour all the petals yellow.
Step 10: A brown eye
Colour the dome dark brown, going around the dots.
Step 11: Green stem and leaves
Colour the stem and both leaves leaf green. Go over your lines and your black-eyed Susan is done!
