How to Draw a Coracle
Draw a coracle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.
Step 1: The waves
Below the middle draw gentle wave bumps from the left edge across to the right. Add short ripples each side.
Step 2: Round bowl
On the waves draw a bowl like half an orange, cut side up, with a rim curve under the top.
Tip A coracle is a floating basket: round like a bowl, no front, no back.
Step 3: Basket weave
Inside the bowl draw 2 long curves across it, then 4 slanted lines down across them, rim to bottom.
Step 4: Paddler's head
Draw a round head in a cap above the bowl, peak pointing left. Add 2 big eyes and a smile.
Tip Give each big eye a dot and a shine.
Step 5: Body in the bowl
Start on the rim left of the head. Draw the shirt over round shoulders and down, stopping on the rim.
Step 6: One paddle
Draw a long paddle into the water. Add a bent arm from shoulder to paddle and back to the shirt.
Tip A coracle has one paddle only, worked over the right side.
Step 7: The sun
Near the top right corner draw a small round sun with 8 short rays all round.
Step 8: Tan basket
Go over your lines. Colour the bowl tan, leaving the weave lines showing.
Step 9: Green shirt, red cap
Colour the shirt and sleeve green and the cap red.
Step 10: Peach face, brown paddle
Colour the face and fist peach, and the paddle brown. Keep the eyes white.
Step 11: Blue sea, yellow sun
Colour the sea blue from the waves down, around the basket and paddle. Colour the sun yellow.
