How to Draw a Convertible

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a convertible in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: nose and open deck.

Print

  1. Step 1: Nose and open deck

Start low left. Go up round a nose, along a long flat top, down round the back. Stop low right.

Tip No roof! The top stays low and flat, like a long open tub.

  2. Step 2: Belly, arches and tyres

Start where you stopped. Draw an arch, a flat belly, another arch, stop at the nose. Add 2 tyres.

Tip Tyres hang under the arches with a little air; hubs are half as wide.

  3. Step 3: Big headlight eye

On the bonnet, draw a round headlight eye, a finger back from the nose. Add a pupil and a shine.

  4. Step 4: Windscreen and seats

After the bonnet, draw a windscreen leaning back: from the top line, up and down to it. Add 2 seats.

Tip The seats are 2 rounded headrests poking up from the open top.

  5. Step 5: Smile and bumper

Under the eye, draw a small U smile. From the nose, bulge a bumper out and back to it.

Tip Press harder for the smile so it stays bold when coloured.

  6. Step 6: Door and handle

From between the 2 seats, draw a door line straight down, stopping on the back arch. Add a handle.

  7. Step 7: Tail, pipe and roof

From the back seat, draw a low roof bump down to the tail. Add 2 folds, tail light and pipe.

Tip The folded roof lies low and long on the boot, like a rolled-up blanket.

  8. Step 8: Road and shine

Draw one straight road line under both tyres, nose to pipe. Add a shine dash in the windscreen.

  9. Step 9: Lights and glass

Go over your lines. Colour the lights yellow around the dot and shines, the windscreen sky blue around its shine.

  10. Step 10: Tan seats, grey bits

Colour the seats tan. Colour the hubs, handle, bumper, pipe and roof grey, each hub with a black dot.

  11. Step 11: Red car, black tyres

Colour a pink cheek, then the body red around the lights, cheek and handle, the tyres black around the hubs.
