How to Draw a Street Sweeper

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a street sweeper in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: cab, frame and bumper.

Print

  1. Step 1: Cab, frame and bumper

Start low left. Go round a stubby nose, over a tall cab, stopping at the frame's end. Add a bumper.

Tip The cab is one rounded hill. The frame is a thin shelf behind it.

  2. Step 2: Arches and tyres

From the back, draw 2 rainbow arches and a flat belly, stopping at the nose. Add tyres, hubs and dots.

Tip Tuck each tyre up into its arch, so no white gap shows.

  3. Step 3: Big headlight eye

On the hood, draw a big round headlight nearly as big as a tyre. Colour a round pupil in it.

  4. Step 4: Round-backed bin

Behind the cab, draw a bin taller than the cab: flat on top, one big round curve down the back.

Tip Like the back of a turtle shell: one smooth swoop, no corners.

  5. Step 5: Smile and cheek

Start under the eye. Draw a small U smile, stopping before the nose. Add a cheek behind the eye.

  6. Step 6: Window and handle

From above the hood, draw a big window, back to the start. Add a pillar, shine and door handle.

  7. Step 7: Seam and rib

From the end of the flat top, draw a line down to the frame. Add a rib across the front.

Tip The round back behind the seam is the tailgate that lifts up.

  8. Step 8: Spinning brush

Between the tyres, tuck a round brush under the belly. Add 5 bristles fanning out, as low as the tyres.

Tip Bristles only on the bottom, where the brush sweeps the road.

  9. Step 9: Road and dust puff

From in front of the bumper, draw a road, stopping past the back. Add a dust puff behind the brush.

  10. Step 10: Yellow truck, pink cheek

Colour the truck yellow up to the seam, around the pupil, window and handle, and the cheek pink.

  11. Step 11: Sky windows

Colour the windows sky blue, leaving the shine white.

  12. Step 12: Grey parts

Colour the tailgate, bumper, door handle, hubs and brush grey.

  13. Step 13: Black tyres

Colour the tyres black, around the grey hubs. Go over your lines and your street sweeper is done!
