How to Draw a Tugboat
Draw a tugboat in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.
Step 1: The waves
Start at the left edge, below the middle. Draw a line of gentle wave bumps across, stop at the right.
Step 2: The hull
From the left waves sweep up, along and down to the right waves. Add a deck line under the top.
Tip Never draw the bottom of the boat: it is under the water.
Step 3: Porthole eyes
On the hull draw 2 big round portholes for eyes. Colour a round pupil in each, leaving a white sparkle.
Step 4: The smile
Start on the bottom of the left eye. Draw one big U smile, stop on the bottom of the right.
Step 5: The cabin
Start on the deck above the left eye. Draw a big upside-down U, stop above the right eye.
Step 6: Funnel and smoke
From the roof draw a funnel up, across, down to the roof. Add a top band and 3 smoke puffs.
Step 7: Cabin window
In the cabin draw one wide pill window. Start on its top, draw a line down, stop on the bottom.
Step 8: Tyre fenders
Draw 2 fat tyres with big holes, front and back. Start each rope on the deck, stop on its tyre.
Step 9: Mast and flag
Start on a small oval at the front, draw a tall post up to a ball, add a triangle flag.
Step 10: Blue sea, rosy cheeks
Colour the sea blue from the waves down. Add a small pink cheek beside each eye. Leave the cabin white.
Step 11: Blue hull, yellow flag
Go over your lines. Colour the hull blue, going around the eyes, cheeks and tyre rings. Colour the flag yellow.
Tip Keep the eyes white.
Step 12: Red funnel, black tyres
Colour the funnel red with a black stripe. Colour the 2 tyre rings black.
