How to Draw a Construction Site
Draw a construction site in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the building frame.
Step 1: The building frame
On the left, draw 2 tall posts a hand apart. Add 3 flat slabs across them: top, middle and bottom.
Tip The posts reach about halfway up the paper; slabs stick out a little.
Step 2: Cross braces
Between the middle and bottom slabs draw two slanting lines from corner to corner so they make a cross brace.
Step 3: The crane mast
On the right, draw a tall crane mast: 2 thin boxes side by side, with a zigzag up between them.
Step 4: The long arm
On top of the mast, draw a long flat arm reaching left over the building, and a short one right.
Step 5: Cab and weight
Next to the mast, draw a small cab with a window. Under the short arm, draw a heavy block.
Tip The heavy block stops the crane tipping.
Step 6: Peak and ties
On top of the mast, draw a tall pointy triangle. From its tip, draw a line down to each arm.
Step 7: Cable and beam
From the long arm, draw a cable straight down, stopping above the top slab, with a beam hanging on it.
Step 8: Ground and dirt
Draw a ground line across the paper. Between the building and mast, draw a low dirt pile with 3 bumps.
Step 9: A traffic cone
Right of the mast, draw a traffic cone with a flat top on a flat base. Add a 2-line stripe.
Step 10: Sky window, yellow crane
Colour the cab window sky blue, then colour the mast, the arms and the cab yellow around it.
Step 11: Orange cone, grey slabs
Colour the hanging beam and the cone orange, leaving the stripe white. Colour the slabs and heavy block grey.
Step 12: Slate posts, brown dirt
Colour the two posts and the cone's base slate grey, and the pile of dirt brown.
