How to Draw an Acorn Sprouting
Draw an acorn sprouting in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the acorn.
Step 1: The acorn
Left of the middle draw an acorn lying on its side: a plump egg, pointed end to the right.
Tip Every oak tree starts like this: a root down, a shoot up.
Step 2: The cap
On the left end draw a wide cup cap covering a third of the nut, with a little nub.
Step 3: Cap scales
Inside the cap draw little curved scales like roof tiles: 3 near the rim and 2 behind them.
Step 4: The crack
On the pointed end draw a jagged crack. Start on the top edge and zigzag down to the bottom edge.
Step 5: The soil mound
Start low left. Draw a gentle hill under the acorn, ending low on the right. Add a ground line.
Step 6: The root
From the bottom of the crack draw a root curving down into the soil, ending in a thin point.
Step 7: Rootlets
Halfway down the root draw 2 tiny rootlets, one right and one left, each stopping a little way out.
Step 8: The shoot
From the top of the crack draw a thin shoot curving up right, with a little round tip.
Step 9: 2 leaves
Just under the tip of the shoot draw 2 pointed leaves, one pointing up left and one up right.
Step 10: Cream root, tan cap
Go over your lines, then colour the root cream and the cap and nub tan.
Step 11: Green shoot
Colour the shoot and the 2 leaves green.
Step 12: Brown soil and nut
Colour the soil light brown around the root and cap, then the nut dark brown. All done!
