How to Draw a Drawing Compass
Draw a drawing compass in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the hinge knob.
Step 1: The hinge knob
Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw a round knob about as big as a plum.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the knob draw 2 big egg eyes, 1 eye apart. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 3: A happy smile
Under the eyes draw a small U smile from eye to eye.
Step 4: Two legs
From the bottom of the knob draw 2 long thin legs spreading apart like an upside-down V, with flat ends.
Step 5: The needle
On the bottom of the left leg draw a sharp little triangle point, like the tip of a pin.
Step 6: The pencil
On the bottom of the right leg draw a small box holder, with a short pencil point poking out below.
Step 7: The paper
Around the feet of the compass draw a big slanted sheet of paper lying flat.
Step 8: The drawn curve
From the pencil point draw a long curve round the needle, like part of a circle. Stop between the legs.
Step 9: Sparkles
Around the compass draw 3 sparkles, 2 big ones at the top and a small one on the left.
Step 10: Cream paper
Colour the paper cream, around the compass.
Step 11: Yellow pencil, pink cheeks
Colour the pencil and the sparkles yellow. Colour 2 pink cheeks under the eyes.
Step 12: Grey compass
Go over your lines. Colour the knob, legs, needle and holder grey, around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a drawing compass, drawn by you.
