How to Draw a Colander
Draw a colander in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
Above the middle draw a big wide oval, most of the page wide. Add a second oval a finger inside.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the oval's left end. Curve down and round like a bowl, up to the right end.
Tip Make the bowl about a hand deep.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the bowl draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.
Step 4: Two handles
On each side of the rim draw a little rounded tab handle sticking out, like an ear.
Step 5: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile, with a small flat cheek beside each end.
Step 6: The foot
Under the bowl draw a short wide ring foot: 2 short lines down and a flat line across between them.
Step 7: Drain holes
Under the face draw a curved row of 6 little holes, following the bottom of the bowl.
Step 8: Two more holes
Add one more little hole at each end of the row, higher up the sides.
Step 9: Table and shadow
Draw a table line under the foot, and a long flat oval shadow on the line round the foot.
Step 10: Grey inside
Colour the inside of the rim light grey.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, grey shadow
Colour the cheeks pink and the shadow grey.
Step 12: Teal colander
Colour the bowl, foot and handles teal, around the face and holes. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Slate holes
Colour every hole slate grey. Your colander is ready to drain the pasta!
