How to Draw a Cocoon

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a cocoon in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the hanging cocoon.

Print

  1. Step 1: The hanging cocoon

Above the middle of your paper draw a big cocoon hanging down: fat in the middle, pointed at the bottom.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

High on the cocoon draw 2 big eggy eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile from eye to eye. Draw a small oval cheek beside each end.

  4. Step 4: A twig on top

Above the cocoon draw a long thin twig right across your paper, with a round end at each side.

  5. Step 5: The silk stalk

Join the cocoon to the twig: draw 2 short lines close together from the cocoon top up to the twig.

  6. Step 6: Silk wraps

Below the face draw 4 curved silk wrap lines across the cocoon, edge to edge, spaced down to the point.

Tip Keep every wrap line under the cheeks, off the face.

  7. Step 7: Top wrap and leaf

Add 1 more wrap above the eyes. From the right of the twig, draw a stem down to a leaf.

Tip Draw a line down the middle of the leaf, like a real leaf.

  8. Step 8: Cream cocoon

Colour the cocoon and the silk stalk cream, leaving the eyes and the cheeks white.

  9. Step 9: Brown twig, green leaf

Colour the twig brown and the little leaf green.

  10. Step 10: Pink cheeks

Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink, and your cosy cocoon is done.
