How to Draw a Kangaroo Jumping

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a kangaroo jumping in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Top left, draw a big egg head, fat at the back, narrowing to a snout low on the left.

Tip The head tips forward, pointing down toward where it will land.

  2. Step 2: Two tall ears

High on the back of the head draw 2 tall leaf ears leaning back, one just behind the other.

  3. Step 3: Eye, nose and smile

Draw a big oval eye halfway down the head, a black nose on the snout, and a smile under it.

  4. Step 4: Back and tummy

From behind the head, draw a C down to the rump. Draw the tummy from the chin to the bottom.

Tip The tummy stops low at the back, where the leg will go.

  5. Step 5: Big thigh and chest

From halfway down the back, curve a big thigh round to the rump. Add a chest line, chin to thigh.

  6. Step 6: Long feet swinging forward

From the thigh, draw a long foot to a round pad with 2 toe lines. Add the far foot behind.

  7. Step 7: Little bent arm

Start on the tummy below the chin. Draw a small tucked-in arm down to a round paw, and back.

  8. Step 8: Tail streaming back

From the back, draw a thick tail out to a round tip, and back to the rump.

Tip A jumping kangaroo holds its tail out straight for balance.

  9. Step 9: Pouch and joey

Start below the arm. Draw a pouch smile across the tummy, stopping on the leg. Add a peeking joey head.

  10. Step 10: Joey face

Give the joey 2 black dot eyes with a tiny shine, a small black nose and a little smile.

  11. Step 11: Ground and whoosh lines

Draw a long ground line well under the feet, so the kangaroo flies. Add 2 whoosh lines behind the tail.

Tip The gap between the feet and the ground makes it a jump.

  12. Step 12: Cream tummy, pink ear

Colour the tummy and the pouch cream. Colour the inside of the front ear pink.

  13. Step 13: Tan fur

Colour the rest of the kangaroo and the joey tan, around the cream and pink. Leave the big eye white.
