How to Draw a Mandrill

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a mandrill in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big round head

Near the top, draw a big round head with full cheeks and a rounder chin. Make it half the mandrill.

Tip Leave room underneath for the body, and at the sides for the ears.

  2. Step 2: Small round ears

On each side of the head, draw a small C ear sticking out, with a smaller C inside.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

High on the face, draw 2 big egg eyes with a gap between. Add a black dot and a shine.

Tip Keep the gap about one eye wide, for the snout.

  4. Step 4: Long snout

From between the eyes, draw a long snout down, thin at the top and wide at the bottom.

Tip Stop a little above the chin, so there is room for the smile.

  5. Step 5: Nose stripe

Down the middle of the snout, draw a thin stripe that ends in a round nose tip. Add 2 nostrils.

  6. Step 6: Cheek ridges

On each side of the stripe, draw 2 curved ridge lines down the wide part of the snout.

  7. Step 7: Small smile

Under the snout, draw a small U smile, about as wide as the round nose tip.

  8. Step 8: Egg body and tummy

From each cheek, draw a C down, curling in to meet at the bottom. Add an oval tummy.

Tip The body is an egg, clearly narrower than the head.

  9. Step 9: Two hanging arms

From under each cheek, draw an arm down over the body's side to a mitten hand with 2 finger lines.

Tip The arm gets thinner at the wrist, and the hand is wider than the wrist.

  10. Step 10: Two feet

From the body's bottom, draw 2 legs down to bun feet and back up. Add a curve across each ankle.

Tip The feet are short and chunky, like 2 little buns.

  11. Step 11: Hair tuft and ground

On top of the head, draw 3 soft hair bumps. Draw a long ground line right under the feet.

  12. Step 12: Cream tummy and feet

Colour the inner ears, tummy, hands and feet cream. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Red stripe, blue snout

Colour the nose stripe red. Colour the snout blue around the stripe.

  14. Step 14: Brown fur

Colour the head, ears, body, arms, legs and tuft brown, around the eyes, snout and cream parts.
