How to Draw a Cocoa Pod
Draw a cocoa pod in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a branch.
Step 1: A branch
From the left edge, near the top, draw a branch thinning to a round tip and back to the edge.
Step 2: A short stalk
Under the branch, a little way in from its tip, draw a short stalk that widens as it goes down.
Step 3: The big pod
From the stalk draw 1 big pod hanging like a football, as big as your hand, pointy at the bottom.
Step 4: Ridges
Down the pod draw 3 long ridge lines from top to bottom, the outer 2 bowing out.
Step 5: A cut-open pod
Low on the right draw a small boat shape. Add a curve from tip to tip for the cut edge.
Step 6: The pulp
Inside the top of the boat draw a smaller pointed oval for the creamy pulp, just in from the lines.
Step 7: Fat beans
Inside the pulp draw 5 fat oval beans, 3 in a back row and 2 in front.
Step 8: A leaf
Under the branch on the left draw a long pointed leaf. Add a vein inside it, stopping before each end.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a long ground line from the left edge to the right edge, just touching the cut pod.
Step 10: Cream pulp, tan beans
Colour the pulp cream and the beans tan.
Step 11: Orange pods
Colour both pods orange, around the cream pulp of the cut pod.
Step 12: Brown branch, green leaf
Colour the branch and stalk brown and the leaf green. Go over your lines and your cocoa pod is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a cocoa pod, drawn by you.
