14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a flounder in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and nose.

Print

  1. Step 1: Eye and nose

Draw a huge eye, left of middle. Start left of its top, draw a tall curve bending out, stop below.

  2. Step 2: Flat egg body

Start at the nose's top end. Draw a rainbow over the eye and stop at a short neck. Repeat underneath.

  3. Step 3: Second eye and smile

Behind the big eye and higher, draw a smaller eye with a dot. Add a smile under the big eye.

Tip A flounder has both eyes on the same side!

  4. Step 4: Bow-tie tail

Start at the top line's end. Draw a fat C and stop at the neck. Add a smaller C below.

  5. Step 5: Top frill fin

Start on the top line behind the nose, draw a wavy frill and stop near the tail. Add 5 rays.

  6. Step 6: Bottom frill fin

Start on the bottom line behind the nose, draw the same frill and stop near the tail. Add 5 rays.

  7. Step 7: Side fin

Behind the big eye, low down, draw a small leaf pointing at the tail. Add 2 short rays inside.

  8. Step 8: Spots

On the back half, below the eyes, draw 3 little spots. Keep them off the side fin.

  9. Step 9: Bubbles

In front of the nose, draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.

  10. Step 10: Sand

Start at the left edge below the fish. Draw a wavy sand line and stop at the right edge.

  11. Step 11: Seaweed

Start on the sand near each side. Draw a wiggly seaweed blade up and back down to the sand.

  12. Step 12: Sandy floor, blue bubbles

Colour the floor under the sand line sandy. Colour the bubbles light blue.

  13. Step 13: Tan body, orange fins

Colour the body tan around the spots and side fin. Colour the tail, frills and side fin orange.

    Tip Leave both eyes white.

  14. Step 14: Green seaweed, brown spots

Colour the seaweed green and the spots brown. Your flounder is done!
