How to Draw a Clown Ruffle

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: Smile and round nose

Draw 2 small oval eyes with black dots. Add a round nose, a big wide smile and eyebrows.

Step 3: Frizzy hair

From the left eye, draw fat bumps over the head to the right eye, then curve back across the forehead.

Tip Make the bumps fat and bouncy, with big puffs over the ears.

Step 4: Neck and suit

Draw 2 neck lines. From them, draw round shoulders and a suit down to the waist, leaving arm gaps.

Step 5: Ruffle collar

Start at the left shoulder tip. Draw 7 fat bumps across under the neck. Stop at the right shoulder tip.

Step 6: Long sleeves

From each shoulder tip and armpit, draw a sleeve down to the wrist, bending softly at the elbow.

Step 7: Glove hands

At the bottom of each arm draw a mitten glove, round like an egg, with a little thumb pointing in.

Step 8: Baggy trousers

From the suit's bottom left corner, draw 2 puffy trouser legs, pinched at the ankles. Stop at the right corner.

Step 9: Giant shoes and ground

Under each leg draw an enormous shoe with a long toe pointing out. Draw a ground line under the shoes.

Step 10: Polka dots

Draw 5 small circles on the suit for polka dots: 2 high up, 1 in the middle, 2 low down.

Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour pink cheeks. Colour the face and neck peach, around the cheeks and the nose.

Tip Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Yellow suit, ginger hair

Colour the suit and sleeves yellow, leaving the dots, ruffle and gloves white. Colour the hair ginger.

Step 13: Red nose, blue trousers

Colour the nose and shoes red, and the trousers blue. Go over your lines and your clown is done.
