How to Draw a Clothespin

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a clothespin in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the washing line.

Print

  1. Step 1: The washing line

Near the top of your paper draw one long straight line from the left edge to the right edge.

  2. Step 2: The left half

Left of middle, draw a chunky stick from just above the line: pinched at the waist, round at the bottom.

Tip Thin at the top, a little fatter at the bottom.

  3. Step 3: The right half

Draw the right half the same, flipped. The halves touch down past the waist, then open a small gap.

  4. Step 4: The spring

Across the waist draw 3 flat ovals stacked one under the other, hugging both halves, for the spring.

  5. Step 5: Wire end

From the left end of the top coil draw a tiny wire curl poking out to the left.

  6. Step 6: Wood grain

Below the spring, draw one short curved grain line down the middle of each half.

  7. Step 7: Sock on the line

From the peg, draw a sock along the line, down, bending right into a toe, then back to the peg.

  8. Step 8: Cuff and toe

Draw a short line across the top of the sock for the cuff, and a little curve round the toe.

  9. Step 9: Grey spring, wood peg

Colour the spring coils grey, then colour both halves of the peg wood brown around them.

  10. Step 10: Red sock

Go over your lines, then colour the sock red. Your clothespin is holding the washing!
