How to Draw a Bassoon

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a bassoon in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall tube.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall tube

Draw a tall thin tube, a little to the right. Make it flare out slightly at the very top.

Tip Keep the 2 long sides straight and the same distance apart.

  2. Step 2: The boot

Under the tube, draw a box twice as wide with a rounded bottom. It sticks out to the left.

  3. Step 3: The short tube

Start on the boot's top left corner. Go straight up, curve over a round top, stop on the tall tube.

Tip A bassoon is 2 tubes side by side, joined at the bottom.

  4. Step 4: The crook

From the top of the short tube, draw a thin pipe curving up and over to the left.

Tip Draw 2 lines close together, like a bendy straw.

  5. Step 5: The reed

On the end of the crook, draw a small wedge that gets wider. This is the reed you blow into.

  6. Step 6: Rings and cap

Draw a line across the top of the tall tube, and 2 lines across the boot, high and low.

  7. Step 7: Four round keys

Down the middle of the tall tube, draw 4 small round keys, spaced evenly.

  8. Step 8: Three more keys

Down the short tube, draw 3 more round keys, each one in between the keys beside it.

  9. Step 9: Music notes

Draw a music note floating on each side: a dot with a stem up and a little flag.

  10. Step 10: Cream ring, tan reed

Go over your lines. Colour the ring at the very top cream and the reed light brown.

  11. Step 11: Silver parts

Colour the crook, the 7 keys, the band on the boot and the bottom cap grey.

  12. Step 12: Brown wood, blue notes

Colour both tubes and the boot brown, going around the keys. Colour the notes blue. Ready to play!
