How to Draw a Chipmunk Running

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a chipmunk running in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

On the left, draw an egg lying on its side for the head. The small end points left.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.

  2. Step 2: One big eye

In the middle of the head, draw 1 round eye. Add a big black dot with a tiny white shine.

Tip You only see 1 eye because the chipmunk is side on.

  3. Step 3: Nose and smile

On the tip of the snout, draw a small black nose. From under it, draw a short smile curving back.

  4. Step 4: Two round ears

On top of the head, near the back, draw 2 small round ears. One peeks out behind the other.

  5. Step 5: Long stretched body

Start behind the ears. Draw a long back rising to a round rump, then curve under to the chin.

Tip The neck is a little thinner than the body.

  6. Step 6: Near legs

Draw 1 leg reaching forward and 1 stretching back. Each has a bend, a small paw and 2 toe lines.

Tip No paw touches the ground: the chipmunk is in mid leap.

  7. Step 7: Far legs

Behind them, draw 2 more legs peeking out: 1 reaching forward, 1 pushing back. Add 2 toe lines on each.

Tip Now count 4 legs: 2 reach forward and 2 push back.

  8. Step 8: Bushy tail

From the top of the rump, draw a thin tail streaming up. Give its back edge 5 soft bumps.

  9. Step 9: Back stripes

Along the back, draw a long band from shoulder to rump. Split it into 5 stripes with 4 lines.

Tip Make 3 thin stripes with 2 wide stripes between them.

  10. Step 10: Face stripes

Draw a line from the nose, through the eye, to the head's back. Add a curve above and below.

  11. Step 11: Speed lines

Behind the rump, draw 3 short straight lines. They show how fast the chipmunk is going!

  12. Step 12: Cream stripes

Colour the 2 wide back stripes cream. Colour the face stripes above and below the eye cream, around the eye.

  13. Step 13: Light brown fur

Colour the fur light brown, around all the stripes. Leave the eye white.

  14. Step 14: Black stripes

Colour the 3 thin back stripes black. Your chipmunk is running fast!
