How to Draw an Allosaurus

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw an allosaurus in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top left draw a big egg on its side, round at the back and narrower at the snout.

Tip Make it big: the eye and smile must fit. Leave room right and below.

  2. Step 2: Big eye

Draw a big round eye above the middle of the head, toward the front. Add a nostril on the snout.

Tip A fat black dot with 2 white shines: the biggest thing on the face.

  3. Step 3: Smile and teeth

From the front of the snout draw a long gentle smile back under the eye, curling up just past it.

Tip Hang 4 little triangle teeth along the front of the smile. Stop before the eye.

  4. Step 4: Eyebrow horns

On top of the head draw 2 small pointy horn bumps, one above the eye and one just behind.

Tip Each starts and stops on the head line, like raised eyebrows.

  5. Step 5: Neck and back

Start behind the head. Draw one smooth line down the neck and along the back. Stop above the hip.

Tip The neck curves gently into the back: no sharp corner.

  6. Step 6: The tail

Start where the back line stopped. Draw the tail out to a tip and back underneath, stopping under the bottom.

Tip Think carrot: fat at the bottom, thin at the tip. Fatter coming back.

  7. Step 7: Chest and tummy

Start under the head, below the eye. Draw one bowed curve down the chest and tummy. Stop at the tail.

Tip Push the chest out in front, like a fat pear.

  8. Step 8: Fat thigh

Draw one big egg on the hip for the thigh, fat end up, narrow end pointing down and forward.

Tip Rub out the bit of tummy line inside the thigh.

  9. Step 9: Leg and foot

From the thigh's narrow end draw a shin slanting back to the ankle, then a foot with 3 toes.

Tip The shin gets thinner to the ankle. The foot points forward.

  10. Step 10: Far leg and ground

Start on the tummy behind the thigh. Draw the far leg down to a foot and back. Add the ground.

Tip Most of this leg hides behind the thigh.

  11. Step 11: Arm and hand

From the chest draw a short arm bending forward at the elbow. End it in 3 short pointy fingers.

Tip The arm gets thinner toward the hand.

  12. Step 12: Tummy patch

Start on the chest line under the head. Draw a bowed curve down the tummy, stopping on the thigh.

  13. Step 13: Cream tummy, yellow horns

Go over your lines. Colour the tummy patch cream and the 2 eyebrow horns yellow.

  14. Step 14: Colour it ginger

Colour the head, body, tail, legs and arm ginger, around the tummy. Leave the eye and teeth white.
