How to Draw a Caterpillar
Draw a caterpillar in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.
Step 1: Big round head
On the left, above the middle, draw a big round head, as big as a plum. Leave room right.
Tip The head is the biggest part, so make it big and round.
Step 2: Two antennae
From each side of the head top, draw a short curve up and out, stopping at a little ball.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Across the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes close together, each with a black dot and shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw an open smile: a flat line with a wide U under it. Add 2 round cheeks.
Step 5: First two bumps
On the right of the head, draw a round bump tucked behind it. Add a slightly smaller bump behind that.
Tip Each bump is a ball hiding behind the one in front.
Step 6: Three more bumps
Keep going: add 3 more round bumps, each tucked behind the one before and a little smaller.
Step 7: Tiny legs
Under the middle of each bump, draw 1 short leg with a little round foot.
Tip The legs are tiny, shorter than a fingernail.
Step 8: Big leaf
Under the feet, draw a long leaf, round at the left and pointed at the right, with a middle line.
Tip The feet stand on the leaf. Its middle line runs from the round end to the point.
Step 9: Yellow head, pink cheeks
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the head and antenna balls yellow around the cheeks and mouth. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Green bumps, red mouth
Colour all 5 bumps and the tiny legs light green, and the open mouth red.
Step 11: Dark green leaf
Colour the leaf dark green, around the feet. Go over all your lines.
